Now in its third year, our hugely successful two year pilot Women in Leadership Mentorship Program is rolling out to a national level across Canada. We aim to increase women’s participation in management or leadership positions in Canada through combining mentorship and leadership skills development. This groundbreaking, 6 month program connects female role models in business and helps women develop their leadership potential and build specific skill sets necessary to thrive as leaders in our businesses and local communities.

What does this program offer?

The Women in Leadership Mentorship Program provides both mentors and mentees with an opportunity to experience personal and professional growth. This program consists of:

  • Group Mentorship and Networking through WIL events such as the Ontario or Montreal Women in Business Forum
  • 2 Workshops specifically designed for mentors to improve their leadership skills
  • 2 Workshops tailor-made to meet the mentees needs
  • 4 Roundtable/Sharing Circle sessions
  • Certificate rewarded on completion

Who is the program for?

Any woman who is yearning to develop their leadership skills. You are currently working part or full time, are seeking for job/attending a job placement program, attending college or university, or retired.

When does it take place?

  • Vancouver: June  – Dec 2010
  • Toronto: Oct 2010 to Mar 2011
  • Montreal: Oct 2010 to Mar 2011

Why is it relevant for a potential mentor or mentee?

Leadership traits are not something that people are born with; becoming a leader is a process that requires learning, growing, and establishing a specific skill set. The Women in Leadership Mentorship program provides an ideal opportunity for any women to develop and improve those leadership skills that are required in your career and personal life.

What differentiates the Women in Leadership Mentorship program?

This innovative program promotes the participation of women in economic, social, and cultural life across Canada and consists of a dynamic agenda for all participants. From roundtable sessions to skill building workshops, the one-to-one mentoring truly becomes a partnership that results in 2-way learning that each individual benefits from in a unique way.

What results can you expect from the program?

Both mentors and mentees will advance their leadership capability by building a specific skill set required for all individuals who wish to advance their careers and make an impact on their community. The skills acquired are those needed in order to stand out among many and showcase your full unique potential.

Mentor testimonial: Mentee testimonial:

“Being a mentor has meant a profound opportunity to meet another woman from a different walk of life, whose narrative, life experience and calling remind you of both a woman’s struggles and power to overcome…in turn, empowering you to reconnect with the spirit of ‘woman’—that is, to lead up rather than sit idly by, to effect change hand in hand with other women, and to create from the depths of our deepest core for the greater good of us all.”

“Improved my self esteem. Validated my role as both professional and aboriginal leader.”

“Being a mentor has been a very meaningful experience for me. It has made me realize how important it is for young women to have a female role model in their life. It has especially made me appreciate the mentoring I myself have received over the years.”

“I was uncertain going into this as to my value as a mentor, but seeing myself through the eyes of my mentee and how much she appreciates my “wisdom” has brought me so much confidence in my own career path and choices that I make. Also interacting with the other mentors has been a great experience. I wasn’t sure that I was mentor / leadership material, but interacting with them and realizing we all face challenges, none of us are perfect and we are all on a journey has given me even more confidence in my own abilities.”

“My network has expanded, especially connections in the financial field that can help me personally and also professionally as we undertake some financial literacy programs for women at our agency.

“Support, guidance, life-long friendship.”

It has meant having a “big sister” in the professional world to call when we’re confused! It’s been great to have a mentor who provides guidance, laughter and support. “

“Having a mentor was first of all a gift of a friendship as well as a support system for gauging and advancing my journey in all aspects of my life and career.”

“I thought it was really great to speak with someone who was once in my shoes, going through the same questions and difficulties and then seeing where they are at now… I enjoyed this program and hope you’ll continue to work towards making this accessible to more young women.”

“Having a mentor has provided insight into the industry of interest that I would not have otherwise received. Also, I was able to specifically address concerns I had about picking the career path of choice. My mentor helped not only with that but also my personal struggle reconciling my east Indian and Canadian identities which, according to me, are in constant disagreement.”

“I feel so glad for have the mentor who know listen and understand to me, who have the time and the experience to give me advice to really work in my life.”
