Meet Jessell: Helping Emerging Leaders Take Their First Step Toward Their Dream Career

At the Emerging Leaders Placement Project, we believe that volunteering is more than giving back—it's about building confidence, developing leadership skills, and opening doors to future careers.

One way we support our youth is through complimentary professional resume reviews. As a special milestone, every participant who reaches 50 volunteer hours receives a personalized resume review to help them prepare for employment, post-secondary opportunities, and their next career step.

We are incredibly fortunate to have Jessell Chesley Miranda, our HR Intern at the Women in Leadership Foundation, leading this initiative.

Jessell recently completed a postgraduate program in Human Resources Management and has built experience in administration, talent acquisition, volunteer recruitment, and facilitating student success programs. Her passion lies in helping others recognize their strengths and confidently present themselves to future employers.

When asked why resume reviews are so important for youth, Jessell shared:

"Your resume is usually your ticket to get your dream job, explore new opportunities, and begin your career journey. Resume reviews help youth tailor their background and experiences to the field they want to enter while building confidence in what they have to offer. I'm here to provide that support and help them take that first big step into their journey."

Jessell's Top Resume Tips

  • Keep your resume clean, simple, and easy to read.

  • Include your name, contact information, city, education, and experience.

  • Don't forget that volunteer work and extracurricular activities absolutely count!

  • Keep your resume to two pages or less.

  • Highlight your most relevant experience first.

  • Focus on accomplishments using 3–4 strong bullet points for each position rather than listing every task.

These simple tips can make a significant difference in helping youth stand out during the hiring process.

More Opportunities Available This Summer

Thanks to Jessell's generosity, she has a limited number of additional resume review appointments available this summer for individuals who would like professional feedback on their resume.
