We are honoured to welcome Emma-Leigh Johnston as the new Chair of the Emerging Leaders Youth Steering Committee.

Emma-Leigh is a passionate youth advocate, student leader, and incoming Trent University student pursuing a dual degree in Medical Sciences. She recently completed her term as Indigenous Student Trustee for ALCDSB and now serves as Director and Youth Engagement and Outreach Coordinator with CMHS.

Her leadership is already making a meaningful impact. This year, Emma-Leigh is leading a grant-funded project that brings Indigenous cultural programming into local high schools, creating safe spaces for students to connect with culture, community, and peer support through workshops led by community members.

Emma-Leigh’s work is rooted in Indigenous representation, mental health, and helping young people feel proud of who they are and what they can achieve. Her long-term goal is to become a pediatric surgeon and return home to serve her community.

As we work closely together, we know Emma-Leigh will be an incredible inspiration to our Emerging Leaders community. We have exciting work ahead, and we look forward to her leadership, voice, and vision as she helps guide the future of this incredible group.

Welcome, Emma-Leigh — we are so excited to have you leading alongside us.
