Vanessa Muñoz Carvajal, Emerging Leaders Placement Program
What motivated you to become a volunteer in the Emerging Leaders Placement Project?
I was motivated by a strong desire to give back to society and contribute meaningfully to my community. Volunteering allows me to support others while growing as a leader.
What do you consider to be the most rewarding aspect of being a volunteer?
The most rewarding part is the personal fulfillment and self-recognition that comes from helping others and knowing my time and effort make a real difference.
Have there been any valuable lessons or insights you've gained through your volunteer journey? If so, could you share one or two that have had a significant impact on you?
Volunteering at food banks in New Westminster showed me the dedication of volunteers—especially seniors—who give their time selflessly for years. Their commitment to serving others is truly admirable and inspiring.
How do you take care of your well-being while pursuing your goals or leadership roles?
I prioritize my mental health by staying connected to my goals without being harsh on myself. I practice self-compassion and speak to myself as I would to a close friend.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering becoming a volunteer?
Don’t hesitate, just do it. Volunteering is one of the easiest and most meaningful ways to meet people who share your values and build genuine connections.
Thank you so much for volunteering and making a positive difference, we greatly appreciate your dedication and valuable contributions.
